Launched in 2018, the FFSA Academy’s FIA F4 was previously powered by an normally-aspirated 2-litre Renault engine. From the 2020 season, the FIA-compliant Mygale chassis will be equipped with a brand new 1.3-litre aluminium direct-injection Renault Sport turbocharged engine block.
Thanks to this new engine, the French F4 will be able to reach the level of performance of the best current FIA F4s. The 1.3-litre Turbo engine recently developed by Renault Sport provides a significant weight saving of 30 kg and torque increases over a wide operating range. The greater driving pleasure will go hand in hand with an even more interesting learning experience for the participants of the 2020 French F4 Championship.
“The FFSA Academy always closely follows developments in motorsport,” says Christophe Lollier. “When we made our choices for the FIA F4 two years ago, the 2-litre engine was the best solution. Now that Renault Sport has developed a more modern turbocharged engine, it was logical that we should adopt it for the benefit of our academicians.“
