The FFSA Circuit Equipe de France enjoyed a dream weekend at the close of the FIA F2 Championship in Abu Dhabi with extremely positive results from two of its members. Théo Pourchaire won the F2 title while Victor Martins, 5th in the standings, was crowned top rookie of the season.
The FFSA Academy is proud of the success of its two youngsters, who began their single-seater careers in the French F4 Championship. Victor Martins finished runner-up in 2017 and Théo Pourchaire, still very young, was 3rd overall and best junior of the 2018 season. Both were impressed by their experience in the FFSA’s training structure after their years in karting, and were subsequently integrated into the FFSA Circuit French Team thanks to their very encouraging results.
The Abu Dhabi competition was not easy to manage. Barely back from his F1 run with Alfa Romeo in the first Free Practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Théo was back behind the wheel of his F2 for Qualifying. He didn’t match his performance from the previous session, however, and only managed 14th. He climbed back up to 7th in the sprint race, but Victor was delayed by a collision and finished 20th. On Sunday morning, the long race went better for the French camp. Théo managed to climb nine places to 5th place and definitively secured his coronation in F2, a first for a Frenchman in the recent history of the discipline. Victor took a rewarding 2nd place, with the fastest lap of the race, making him the best rookie of the season and rewarded with the Anthoine Hubert Trophy.
Team-mates at ART Grand Prix, the two drivers enabled their team to win the team title it had been coveting since the relaunch of F2 under the FIA banner.
