The season – and what a season! – is only just over but the FFSA Academy is already preparing for the next edition of the French F4 Championship. With the arrival of the new FIA car and the participation of many foreign drivers, the 2018 vintage showed a level of competition rarely achieved for every participant. The training of the young apprentice champions has been all the more effective and the 2019 title contenders are already jostling to participate in the five days of testing scheduled in November on the Bugatti circuit of Le Mans.
Motor sport news was full of the appointment of Frenchman Pierre Gasly in one of the leading teams in Formula 1. After a successful debut with Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2018, Pierre will join Max Verstappen next year at the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team. This is an opportunity to recall that the Norman driver made his debut with the FFSA Academy, in particular competing the 2011 season of the French F4 Championship for his debut in single-seaters. The foundation instilled at Le Mans has apparently proved very useful in his car career as he currently represents the best French chances in F1. Later joining the French FFSA Circuit team, a federal path to the highest level, Pierre regularly trained at the facilities of the FFSA Academy.
Exceptional in more ways than one, the 2018 season of the French F4 Championship validated the new directions of the FFSA. The introduction at the beginning of the year of a new 100% French car conforming to the specifications of the FIA ??has met every expectation. The latest-generation Mygale carbon hull is homologated by the FIA, while the Renault Sport 2-litre engine brings power and reliability to the car. The eclectic season gathered more than 20 drivers from France, as well as from Brazil, Belgium, South Africa, Oman, Germany and Monaco. The races were as open as possible with nine different winners and many revelations, especially among the rookies. Each of the participants was able to enjoy a unique experience on the circuits as well as at Le Mans thanks to the structure of the FFSA Academy.
The selection phases of the 2019 French F4 Championship will take place next month on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans. Five dates are set, for 6th, 14th, 20th, 22nd and 27th November with eight drivers per day. On the programme, discovering the federal training centre, and track running so the field of the upcoming season can take shape, which promises to be thrilling.
